Default Rear Wiper Arm - should it be splined?

Hey folks,
I just bought a new rear wiper motor and rear wiper arm because I need it working before the potato harvest starts.
Over the years my jeep has had this bit hacked around quite a lot so I don't know if it had the original bits or parts from different years mashed together to somewhat work.
So, the new motor has a splined shaft but the new arm (mopar) isn't splined to match. Do I just crank down on the nut until the splines bite or have I got the wrong bits? Both were ordered from RockAuto for a '97.

Thanks!
Morat

IIRC, the replacement Mopar arm I bought for my '98 wasn't splined either. Just position it and tighten the nut. It'll hold just fine.

My '99 is not splined either. Easy-peasy to replace the arm.Wish the fronts were like that, splined wiper arms can be a real PITA to remove.

The Dorman part for my 96 was not splined. Has held ok for over a year so far.
