I just got done rebuilding my engine. Stayed stock mostly. But the cam was toast so I replaced it with cam from comp cams. Everything else is stock or stock spec. Runs great. Nice and smooth and a little extra torque. That all I wanted did not want to go overboard.

The last two 4.0's I tore apart looked great other than the cam. I went the same route and got a comp cams cam. What is it with these cams? They appear to be the weak link in the 4.0. At least in my limited experience.

Yeah no problem just let me know. send your crank out to see what sizes on the mains and rods. and dont bore the block untill you get the parts so you can send it with a piston. so they machine it dead on.

My 89 had the same issue when I tore it apart. There was a chip in one of the lobes.

Wouldn't you want to send the block to the machine shop first before ordering pistons? That way they can tell you if the cylinders need to be bored out and if so how much.

if its stock bore and the walls look good than it wont have a problem going 20 over.

im still in the hunt for a good core long block. But the cams always look damaged???
