Default Rebuilding rear end 8.25

Hi
so my first diff rebuild due to loud noise in the back. I found the actual diff has a gouge. Bad scrape is it normal? I had cleaned up the differential housing and can’t find any debri. All my gears appear to be ok. Just the bearing passenger side is pitted so hopefully I found the noise issue.

Bad scrape

Bearing marked

If the rollers are pitted, what does the race look like

As expected..just wanted to make sure you replaced it when you replace the bearing..how was your oil lever before dis assembly and do you know what oil viscosity was in there

no idea on the viscosity, we bought the jeep with bearing noise. Under the assumption it was outside axle bearing. Level was good right below the fill hole.
Previous owner claimed he would tow small fishing boat.

Is that metal case all ground away where the pinion shaft rides?

Replace those side bearings and races - Unless you have a puller to get those side bearings off you will need to cut the inner races off and possibly split them with a chisel.

I would check the Pinion bearings and races as well.

I am installing my pinion. I have new races, pinion bearing pressed in but what’s the trick for this?
I know need to drive a new seal but looking for pointers.
Do I install seal and then the spoke to drive the nut. Which then pulls the pinion into the bearing?
