I have 264K on the clock.
I need to replace the control arms, as well as the water pump. I don't know if the control arms are OEM. The clockspring was bad and the hood has been replaced when I bought it. I've installed 3 waterpumps including one of magic Bosch units with the disappearing impeller.
Any recommendations as to manufacturers, High flow water pump.
Thanx in advance

Dont' bother with the high flow water pump. The OEM Cooling system works fine as is. As far as I know the OEM pump has been discontinued so you are stuck with aftermarket. I'd go with Gates myself but probably hard to go wrong with any of them.

NAPA has 2. One with a plastic impeller and one with a metal impeller. Remember that impeller swings about 1/16" from the cylinder barrel and any looseness in the bearing can cause it to explode. Which would you use?

@Downs: Thank you: The current pump is Gates. And was last replaced in Dec 2016 at 200 K

I think you're looking at Dave's "signature" stuff - it appears at the bottom of all of his posts. A lot of folks just throw out questions without information specific to their Jeep - aka, they don't fill out the profile information before asking questions. You're fine though.

Thats a good question, but I cant actually figure the answer..do I want a high speed collision causing fragmentation, plastic or metal impellor ?

wouldnt a sacrificial plastic impellor blade be the thing to loose ?

not trying to be a smart alec, I would normally prefer to fit a metal impellor WP

The reason I suggested a metal impeller is my 97 ZJ 4.0 water pump was making noise and I could move the tips of the fan blades over an inch front to back, but wasn't leaking yet. When I took it out, there was a groove worn in the first cylinder barrel almost a sixteenth inch deep! Had that been a plastic impeller, there would have been bits and pieces in the water jacket that I'd never have gotten out!

Even new parts fail. I was working automotive many years ago, and the technician was washing his hands after doing a waterpump install. He was keeping an eye on the car while burping the system and the new waterpump just came apart.

For a highflow WP, I use a Hesco. www.hesco.us
I also use their "highflow" thermostat housing. I installed a larger radiator, and for the fun of it, I did silicone radiator hoses. My Jeep used to run just on the "plus" side of 210*F. Now it runs just below the 210*F on the factory instrument cluster.
