Recommendations for a stock cherokee

Recommendations for a stock cherokee
Just bought a 1999 Cherokee classic with 117k miles. It is in better than any Cherokee I have seen. NO rust, NO body damage, the interior is PERFECT. It is stock with the exception of running boards. I have already purchased a sound system to have installed, including 4 upgraded speakers, a head unit, a large amp, and a 12 in sub in a ported box. I know I want to put a rack on the top and mount the spare up there. It has new Michelin tires, 235s. I don't wanna lift it more than 3 inches and I don't want bigger than 31s. Looking for interior and exterior mods and upgrades as well as engine upgrades. All ideas welcome. Thanks

You're better off getting a hitch tire carrier of you're doing that t save space in the cargo area. Roof isn't bad but eh, its preference.

If I could fit my tire in the trunk I would...it is preference though, if you like how it looks go for it though. On the highway you're going to hear the wind whipping around up there, maybe a small drop in gas milage? Trial and error, every XJ is different.

I really can only suggest one important modificaiton: Swap it from being your Jeep to being my Jeep!
Nice score!
Now don't wreck it!

haha thank you. She is a meticulously maintained jeep. I was in the market for a wrangler but once saw the xj and the condition it was in, I had to get it!

nice score indeed !!! and if you paid under 3k you really hit it out of the park!!!
as mentioned above its a matter of preference and if you plan to install a rack and spare up top but intend to keep it stock for the most part personally I think it would look awkward, again preference.. rear tire rack and bumper would be the way to go if you pony up some cash and get/build a nice one..
and a few days to browse the site may be an understatement, this place is packed with more info than one can handle...

Good thing you got the Cherokee. Depends where you live, but if I had subs in the back of a wrangler they would be snatched out of my car so quick lol (unless I had like a hardtop and tints)

Id take the back plastic quarter panel covers off and check for rust there. My 98 is nearly rust free, except for where the plastic covered the rear quarter panels.
Also the main thing I plan on doing is getting the old style roof rack, it actually goes to the front of the Jeep, the new one is kind short IMO.
It also looks like you may be in an area that sands/salts, I do and plan on fixing the surface rust on the bottom and bed lining it. Ill probably just use spray can stuff as it doesn't have to look great, just work.

I am starting to look into the rear mount for the spare. I would prefer not to drill into the body, but I don't know how else to do it. I like the stock look of the front and rear bumper. I am definitely thinking about a 3 in rough country lift and 31 in bfg all terrains. It is my DD for this summer and college and I don't wanna kill my gas mileage and I want it to ride well. Any reviews of those products would be great! Or suggestions for lifts. Thank you!
