some tips here;
for best results with ****ty jobs like this, I do the following
measure the size of bore and bush with vernier's, at least,
You want to measure to .001"..reason is most/all steel shells are "interference" fit, meaning the shell will be larger than the bore by ~ .003"
If there is too much of a discrepancy, this must be addressed
* freeze the bush for at least 24 hrs
* clean up the bore really good, with a round file and grit paper
* heat up the bore as much as reasonably possible (which isnt much without oxy)
* immediately prior to installation smear anti-seize on shell
You would be surprised to how good you can go with very hard wood and strong hammer before the press is used. Be prepared to act quickly, have everything ready
(If you have to start again)
If you need to get back on the road, if you can get it back together, it will probably be ok until a new part arrives...and you are in the mood to do it again
bet you didnt use the hacksaw to relieve 2 cuts in shell,
i have used hackzall, which takes a few seconds, but it is actually critical to not saw into the casting, as that gives rise to the possibility of a future stress crack
Shell can then just be tapped out fairly easily with a combo punch set (10 min)
