My suggestion go to the JY grab a tow hitch and nut strips for the rear. Simple and strong. For the front look at the tow hook and bracket idea on google and eBay and look at options

Couple of companies make front receiver hitches for the front of the XJ. Receiver hitches front and rear work great. Just slip the loop on your recovery strap into the 2 inch receiver and put the hitch pin in and you have a safe and solid recovery point.

Never wrap it just aroundthe hitch pin! I have personally seen 3 bend. Do you know hard it is to cut those out??? What I do is throw a 3/4" shackle in place of the ball. Works perfect and you also do not have to worry about fraying the strap

before I fabbed my front bumper and got the Detours stuff, I pulled the factory tow hooks and "d-ring" off of a Toyota truck I had and with a few spare grade 8 3/4" bolts, nuts and lock washers ran it flat against the unibody bottom and used the factory holes in the unibody for attachment points (inside the channel). Can post a pic once I get home to the Jeep Easiest rear solution is to get a hitch with the shackle or hook.

Yep, all of the force is exerted on the center of the pin, at it's weakest point. Hitches with a shackle, or even a grade 8 5/8" nut & bolt instead of the hitch pin would be better.

Hitch pin will hold no problem, been using tractor supply d ring hitch pins for 6 plus years no problems. What do you think has been holding the trailers that weigh up to 8000+ lbs on the 2 inch receiver? Using the same 30 foot 3 inch recovery strap for 5 years no fraying.

The hitch spreads the load out over a larger area, where a tow rope can concentrate it on the center and bend it.

x2. the hitch pin has a great "sheer" strength. Because when the ball mount is in the hitch the only forces exerting on the hit pin are right at the outside edge of the ball mount and the inside edge of the hitch tube. and on both sides of the hitch.

like posted above when the strap is placed in there it will concentrate the load onto the center of the pin which has no support.

But if it works for you I just wont run it do the having seen 3 pins bend.

Not to mention a D-ring hitch adapter isnt too expensive.
