Hello all, my '91 does not have tow hooks or a rear hitch, we are currently having a cold snap with about 3 feet of snow. I have not been stuck yet but my wife got our truck stuck today, I would've liked to have been able to pull her out but don't know where to safely hook a strap to on the jeep. Thanks. Coach p.s. future plans include a winch bumper w/winch and hitch but don't have the funds right now.

 

The only decent option with out ANY recovery points would be the axles just wrap the strap around em

 

I am probably completely wrong on this one, So please don't take my word. But a few years back I had mine towed to a shop and I am pretty sure I just popped the hood and through the strap over the top, in front of the radiatorbut behind the grill, and just right up underneath the bottom If that makes sense. But I'd wait for some one else to confirm before you use my method. It was a few years ago

 

go to the junkyard and find you a hitch and front factory tow hooks. both should bolt right in. target/ wallmart has a reciever plug in with ball for $20.

in that case the above might work. i would use the front axle. as the four link in the front is prob stronger than just the leafs. just watch the steering...

on the other hand i will trade you a foot of snow for some recovery loops.

 

Don't want to get too far off topic, but with 36" of snow, it's not a bad idea to have someone around to pull you out.

 

I've got buddies that I could call, one with a rubicon one with a f250. I just want to be able to help if I'm in that position or if I need to be pulled out I want to be able to do it without damage. Coach

 

I would use the rear axle if I had to choose..Just my 2 cents

 

Not sure what your funds are like but, I called etrailer and got a discount on 2 curt hitches, 1 front and 1 year with the wiring for trailer lights delivered to my door for about $300. The rear hitch is a class III, it has four mounting bolts which some have only 3. I used in during our snow here with was 18+" to pull out a full size chevy truck. Worked without any issues.

 

If you do try this option don't hit it too hard or let it bounce, and for god sake don't use the pop the hood option.

 

You could buy a recovery bumper for less than that my front was 200 from Ryans fabrication.-I believe cost was a concern for the OP too

 

I would highly recommend not to do this. If you are in a real jam I would wrap the strap around the axle.

 

First, start saving for recovery points. Second, until you get them, use the axle, just don't hop or jerk it. Carry a shovel and sand mats with you as well.
