Smile renix problems!!! new to the fourm

hey guys bought my first xj!!! Its an 89 Cherokee limited. I've adjusted the tpa to spec, fixed my exhaust leaks from the slip joints, hate slip joints lol. Had to install new vacuum harness, new sway bar links, new steering damper. Ok that's what I've started with so far as well as ground refreshing! What's really bugging me is my idle, it sits at about 550 in drive, higher in park, but when I put in drive is when it drops. I really want to fix it, it runs fine just low idle, I'm thinking its the iac but any help would be great! I live In Colorado, read plenty forums, nothing matches. Also have a new o2!

thanks everyone

joe

I know when my IAC started going out I would have to give it some throttle to start it. Ran fine and never stalled but always idled low. Should idle at around(600-700). Cleaning it,the throttle body, and the CTS(code 22) fixed it but it wasn't long before I had to replace the IAC. All's good now.

thanks for the info, I'm working atm. But all of it has been cleaned, on start up it changes as far as how long the cranking wants to take, some times 3 or 5 seconds, she runs well though. Exhaust smells very clean when warm. But I will take a look at it. Can an egr valve cause low idle?

Don't replace anything until you do all of Cruisers tips that apply to your 89. Otherwise you are just chasing your tail.

that's my main goal is don't throw parts at it, find out what's wrong. I have been following old mans renix posts. I unplugged the iac while the engine is running with no change to idle. Which leads me to believe maybe its not getting power. I have done the grounds test through the tps with 0 ohms resistance. I was wondering if there is a way to test the iac for power?
thanks for the info. My friends say my jeeps engine is the cleanest thing they have seen. Not to mention the splices have already been takin care of. Let me know what you think.
thanks joe

Let me ask you something.

Of the Renix Tips listed below, which have you performed in the group 1 through 5?

cruiser, I'm sorry it sounds like I'm trying to skip steps because I'm not. I work a ton and have about 1 day off a week. Tomorrow is my day off, I am trying to get everything I need together so I can do this all tonight into tomorrow. I have not been able to go through the one through five steps yet. But have done a few ground refreshings. The only ground I've had a hard time finding is the dipstick one. I don't see it.... I see the one next to it on the block and have cleaned it. The po did number six, I checked. Which leads me to believe others have been done. I will be getting to work on it alittle after nine tonight. And will post my findings.
thanks
joe
