I think all the Autopal boxes say that (both DOT and E-Code). Check the lens, if it is stamped DOT or SAE you are fine. If they are E-Code (not DOT) they will likely not pass inspection.

I dont know how extreme the inspections are where you live. In NY its done by your local mechanic not some inspection station. My guy probably wont even notice it. The e-code lights have a different light pattern that is not dot approved. Just hang onto your old sealed beams and if you have a problem, just pop them in for inspection, a 15 minute job. Then just swap the autopals back in. Thats what I plan on doing if I have a problem in February when my inspection is up. Not really a big deal for me.

It was for illegal EURO lights. You need the correct USA DOT approved headlights, for the same price.

I'm not going to swap them each year before inspection. (Facepalm)
The extra red wire on the battery post will be a dead giveaway that some DIY hackjob was done to the headlights.

So, it looks like I need to order another set of headlights.

lol, if you're offerin, I'll take those off your hands for free. Just slap em on there and when you get it inspected, don't go to the dealership. Chances are they won't even catch it.

I can understand not wanting to swap them each year. But youre not going to install the harness? The red wire has nothing to do with the bulbs. You will need it regardless of which bulb housings you use. Also, I did not run my power wire to the bat terminal. I ran it to the power lug on the big fusebox under the hood by the bat. The little plastic cover goes right over it and it all looks stock. No hack jobs here.

I posted the link to the AUTOPALS,Never told you to buy them.I said these are the ones I used.You should have done your homework before ordering like I did yes they have DOT approved ones but those were not the ones I wanted.The dot approved lights the beam has to be aim more at the signs and not the road,were as code E the light is focused toward the road for European use.Since I lived in the middle of the woods those are the ones I got.Besides I do not think that for the inspection they are going to inspect your truck with a fine tooth comb.Is this your first car or truck?.If is I can understand.And the loose wire on the battery is up to you,if you do a quality install you will not have a hack job.

Yep. Harness needs to be done at a bare minimum.

Perhaps BummerJeeper will do a complete 14 hour install write-up IF he decides to install the harness with it's REVEALING red wire.

Screw it! (pun intended).
I just got inspected last week, so I am just installing these illegal Autopal E style headlights.
I will buy another set of DOT's when I have more time next year.

I was able to break free 7 out of the 8 rusty screws holding in the headlight.
But, one Phillips screw is totally stripped.
Anyone know how to remove a stripped screw?
I can't grab with pliers since it is recessed below the turn signal and headlight glass.

This is exactly what happened to me. I just bent the ring far enough up so I could slide the old bulb out. Mine was a top screw though so I may have had more room to tip the ring at the top. Once the bulb is out you can undo the spring in the bottom corner and remove the bucket off of the adjustment screws, then you can get at the last screw better and from the back if need be. Dont be surprised if the autopal housings are loose and move around in the bucket when installed. I had to bend the 4 corners of the bucket out a little to make them fit snug with the rings screwed down tight.

Do they go into a drill? Can a drill take square drill bits?

dude just get a regular drill bit laying around and drill it out...... no big deal... Install the lights the way you want and who cares about DOT, no one will catch it anyhow.

DOT is a joke anyway, they got rid of inspections two years before I moved here.. I couldn't imagine wasting my day taking my cars into an **** idiot with a clip board!!!

in cali we just worried about smog check every two years, no biggie..

Those square extractors were completely useless. I'll be throwing them in the garbage and getting the other kind that look like screws.

I tried a drill bit. Doesn't work. That was a dead end also. It just made a big divot in the screw head, but did not destroy the screw head enough to remove the light. I had to use a dremel and even that didn't really work. I have no idea how people can get flush to the screw head. This stuff takes serious experience.
