Default Replaced heater core now have an A/C issue

Hi,

I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport straight 6. I did a heater core on it now have no cold a/c. I discharged the system of course(not the correct way with a vacuum canister). After reassembly I bled the coolant system and have great heat. After putting new refrigerant in the system blows hot air. Also the clutch on the compressor stays engaged while the A/C is on. Turn the air off and the clutch stops. Also one of the a/c lines is ice cold and the other line going from compressor to condenser is hot. The air worked great before doing this job now I'm kind of lost. Any suggestions as to what I can do next to get this issues handled? Thanks

Did you put the system into a vacuum before recharging? You don't want air in the system, only the correct amount of refrigerant.

No I didn't. Idiotic I know. Can I still put vacuum on it with refrigerant being in the system? I'm sure I need to get myself a set of manifold gauges for this right?

You'll need a gauge set and a vacuum pump. You can vacuum the system with the refrigerant in there, but it's not "legal" and you will lose the refrigerant.

An "ice cold" line sounds right so one would think the evap (behind the dash) is cold as well.....could the blend door/vent selector under the dash have gotten wacked when going back together? The heater is way more powerful than the a/c so if something with the HVAC controls is not correct under the dash, heated air could be mixing with cold air making for a mediocre a/c at best.
