Question Replacement Cylinder Head Bolts?

I'm halfway through replacing the cylinder head on my '87 4.0 and it's time to order some replacement bolts... the problem is that most places I find them, the bolts cost almost as much as the cylinder head itself! Does anyone know where I can get a set of replacement cylinder head bolts at a reasonable price?

I HAVE found these, but from what I could find from the part number they're showing that they'd fit a '96-'06 4.0. Is there a difference? Are they backwards compatible with an '87? I have no idea.

Advance is the LAST place to buy stuff like that you will pay through the nose. Look on Ebay.

Trust me, I've tried ebay - haven't had much luck there either. I can only find 1-2 results that say they fit an '87, and they're still about $80-$100 which is better but still pricey. Again, a lot of options for '96-'06 4.0s but not much for the earlier ones. Do you know if they would be cross compatible?

Hmm wow yeah I just looked myself, that's a pretty stunning price difference. Wonder why so much! Maybe someone who knows the fine points of 1987 can chime in.

I would not trust eBay head bolts. Period. I don't care what the price is.

Aren't you not supposed to reuse the head bolts? They've definitely been used at least once before, the cylinder head I just pulled off isn't the original.

I'd feel safer using the old ones rather than some new ones made who knows where.
Ever see posts on any forums about failed head bolts????

If I was buying them off of ebay I'd be inclined to agree, but I'd trust ones made by Felpro or another actual name brand. I would reuse them except for the fact that there's paint on the heads of some of the bolts, meaning that they were probably re-used at least once already and marked as a reminder. That, and the threads (much like the entire rest of the car) are all gunked up and don't inspire much confidence.

I just ended up going with the ones I linked in my original post, I found them on Amazon for like $26, same part number from Felpro and everything. I took a closer look at the ones I pulled off and they were an exact match so it SHOULD be fine - worst case they don't fit and I'll just return them.
