Well I got the oem part that's set for 190 degrees and I had to shut it off after about 10 minutes or so cause it was already hot and that was in 20 degree weather but like you said it is worth not having to change it again in a few months I just didn't have to $24 to spend on it right now

I just bought a Mopar tstat at the dealer for 18$, but then went ahead and bought the gasket for another 5$! There was my 23$...

Been using a super stant rated for 195* for the past 3 months, but it seems more like a 180* as my temp never gets above 180-185*. Going to swap in the mopar when I fix some leaks here soon.

Are those numbers going by the Jeep factory gauge? The Stant SuperStats I've installed over the years seem to be spot-on when tested with an accurate cooking thermometer. What's seldom accurate is a factory gauge.

The damn things open too soon. Using my IR, it appears 185* is tops for their 195* stat.

Guess I'm just lucky. I replaced the stat in my mother's 3.8L Buick 2 weeks ago.....Stant SuperStat 180. Digital temp gauge floats 178-185 and the heater works great. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket.

For all the luck you've had with them, I've had bad luck. Does it get cold where you live?

And if not then why not just take it out during the summer so your jeep will run as cool as possible?
two words.. NO! you engine is mad to operate at a certain temp. put the right one in for the engine.

I admit, I am going by the factory gauge and haven't IR'd it, though it appears Cruiser has.

Not extremely cold, lows have been in the upper teens.

FWIW, we use a ScanGauge in the XJ and have a 180 Stant SuperStat installed. It's located in central Oklahoma so upper teens for lows so far as well and heater works fine. Basically the same readings on the ScanGauge in the XJ as the digital readout in the Buick....178-185 cold mornings running the heater.

I know a Buick 3.8L and a XJ 4.0L are apples and oranges but testing both 180 SuperStats prior to installation reveal open temps between 180-185 and the SuperStats are Made in USA, not Mexico....plus they look prettier than the Mopar stat (all nice and shiny).
