Restore door trim/fender flares?
I have a 98 Cherokee sport. The previous owners restored one of the back fenders but not the door trim or front fenders. Does anyone know how I can get them black again like the bumpers and maybe stick them back on a little better? Thanks guys!

Make sure it's clean and dry. Then use a heat gun. It works.
Not sure on the lifting part...all my trim was long gone before I got mine, haha

When I had the stock flares, I removed them, primed them, and painted them with Rustoleum semi-gloss back. they looked great!!
If you choose this path, you will need a 10mm deep socket and wrench. There are about 7 or 8 nuts in the fender well that need removed. This frees up the fender to come off the body.
Check the first couple pages of my build thread for the results.

Someone said to pull the trim off that is peeling up reattach it with 3M double-sided adhesive and then spray it all with either jet black spray paint or bedliner. I think the previous owners had use spray paint on the fenders because I can see the runoff

Personally I like the trim I think it breaks up the doors and kind of makes it look a little nicer. I just wish it matched everything. That's why I'm looking into getting them restored

You could do this for sure, that 3M stuff works great...however I have read that painting them doesn't last long. And you'd need to be really careful not to bend them after coating to not crack the paint. I'm not a body and paint guy by any means, but the method I mentioned above works, and lasts. Chemicals only last for a short time, paint slightly longer...IF you want to paint them, and re-stick with adhesive, I would pull them off, prep for paint, re-stick, THEN prime/paint. Yes, you'll need to do some masking, but I just feel the end result would look better doing it like that.
Just my opinion.

Painted mine with rustoleum bumper and trim paint. Wipe down with a paint prep. Spray lightly. Maybe 3 light coats. About a year and a half on mine and they still look great. And if you are removing them then I would paint them before reinstalling.

So I had to take door molding off my '00 to get some work done on the doors plus they were starting to peel off a little. I like the look of the Jeep with them both on and off. Little torn as to what to do. Leave them off or use Kyrlon Fusion, like a lot of people recommend, to do them. Decided to try something a little different. I have Line-X doing some work for me. Decided to throw in the door molding too. I do not have them back yet but have high hopes for how they will look on my black Jeep. Will be using 3M VHB 5952 tape in 1/2" and 1/4" sizes to put them back on.
