UPDATE: I haven't seen the No Bus error while driving around the past few days. It occurred to me I haven't turned on the radio in the past few days.
The radio is some cheap, aftermarket piece of junk with a low-end install. Not using this radio is no big deal since it sounds so awful anyway.
Could a bad ground, or other problem with an aftermarket radio cause a No Bus error?

I had the exact problem when I first purchased my jeep. It was unnerving driving down the highway and getting this message with everything lit up! I took a pic while doing 40 to show the previous owner and try to get an explanation from him.
Wound up going to Jeep dealership and getting it fixed. I didn't want to dick around and try to guess at the problem. They fixed it and it never returned.

Did the dealer tell you what the problem was?

Good day gents,
Recently bought a 1999 Jeep XJ 4.0 auto. I am experincing the no Bus error, but with that, I get a "check engine" light, as well as the "security" light (key with line through), and my jeep's engine cuts out, immobilizer's function, or anti theft. It does this rondomly, so theres no pattern to it, making it hard to pin point what could be causing this, and i mean, stuck in the middle of tracking, i get quite the few fingers by agitated drivers. After a few minutes it starts up again. I tried cleaning the plugs behind the cluster. Problem persists. Could this bad connection between the cluster and PCM, cause the SKIM unit to shut down? Essentially it seams that the PCM is looking for the key?
This is driving me insane.
Cheers! Lofty
