Ripped off?

I think anyone who says its $200 bucks and a couple hours is talking IDEAL conditions with every tool known to man, a garage and lift to work on it, NO problems what so ever and ONLY replaces the leafs themselves (but I still dont beleive it can be done that quick because Ive done it myself, its a BIG job).
I bought leafs ($160 total), bushings ($40), center bolts ($50), shackles ($50) and ubolts ($40) for a total of $340 dollars. Thats NOT the cost of shipping either! I also had my shock bolts break and replaced those along with the shocks themselves. But figure to replace the leafs correctly, with new hardware and bushings, youre talking $350 for parts alone (more like $400+ with shipping on everything). Now, the shops up my way get $45 an hour, but 2 hours south of me they get $125. Depending on where you live, how much labor is, etc., $1100 is high, yes, but how much time, tools, knowledge and drive do you have to do it yourself? I dont think $1100 is outrageous honestly. I wouldnt want to pay it, but it is what it is.
All in all it shouldn't run you more than $280 if you're shopping around. Should you need to replace everything, perhaps $310. This guy was over charged close to $800.00 in labor... Even in a shop charging as high as $100/hr, they spent 8 hours doing the job? With all the necessary tools and knowledge they should have??? I don't think so.
This guy was screwed.
Even if you have to spend a weekend doing your springs, lets say 10 hours (absolute worse case)... Your saving what some people earn in two paychecks. However these guys were able to make it happen in a day? Give this shop a bad review wherever possible in my opinion.

2 u-bolts per side dont equal 4. There might be 4 NUTS, but there ARENT 4 bolts. AND you need to remove the shocks too.
I did shop around, and got the lowest/best prices on QUALITY stuff. Most of the parts came from Quadratec. Look at my list again, its an accurate price of what the parts will cost you. There were guys on here saying I should buy the center bolts at the hardware stove that were "close enough" to the correct size so I could save $15 bucks. Seriously!?
Again, all you guys complaining, saying he got ripped off, etc., are you serious? Sure, its high, but it is NOT a small job. Youre talking about the whole rear suspension being taken apart and replaced.
You guys must go nuts when you hear about a heater core costing $1200 in labor (last summer I paid $35 for the part and it took me a day to do it). Is it excessive, yes! But we're talking about someone being ripped off. HUGE difference. He didnt get ripped off, he got charged the going rate of a garage and retail prices on parts.
You guys should all open a garage and do complete suspensions for $500 bucks. Youd make a killing!
PS: Personally I think all garages rip people off on everything, thats why I try not to take my vehicle there when I can do the job. Fact is, going rates at most garages are REALLY high. Youre paying "professionals" to do a job most people dont have the tools, knowledge or time to do. THATS what you pay for.

Going by a shop manual like mitchell or shop key the job does not call for that much. Now a lot of shops will charge extra for excessive rust and such but they should let you know that up from or when they come to that point so you can give a go ahead or not. around here they dont do the job and then say by the way it took long to do the job so its more. a quality shop will give you prices up from and call you for any add ons.
Its done now so leasson learned. enjoy it now.

You asked for our thoughts.
Regardless of what any one says about ideal conditions, air tools, and every tool known to man. I think you paid well over an acceptable amount of money. Shocks don't need to be completely removed just the bottom bolt, there is no need to play with upper shock mounts.
For two reasons you paid to much one your lack of knowledge on the subject and the shops lack of knowledge.
it was stated before, but always come on here first and ask and SEARCH.
also look under the jeep see what someone else has to do.
you learned your lesson the hard way.

If you want to get REALLY technical, there are also 2 nuts on the center bolts that run through the shackle. 5 total bolts and 7 nuts (8 nuts counting the one welded into the front spring frame box).
