This guy describes the job well enough that he paints a pretty good mental image of what's important to do in any maintenance that alters the distance between the lifter and rocker pockets.

Sorry for the delay. I got her running this past Monday. The .030 shims brought everything into spec and she's running like a champ. It initially took a minute or two for one of the lifters to pump back up, but since then she's nice and quiet. Pushrods are all oiling nicely, though the residual antifreeze took a couple flushes of cheap 5w30 to clear out. For the first oil flush I also threw in a quart of MMO just in case there was anything in the lifters. Doing a third oil change today with some Rotella T6 5w40 and a fresh Wix 51515. Next up is fixing the AC before I take her on an 1800 mile roadtrip from the Twin Cities to Nashville.
