rocker panel replacement
Is there a difference between the rockers on a 96 and older xj versus a 97 and newer one? I'm curious because there's a guy up here who has a pair for a 96 and older xj for 60 bucks and I need to replace mine.

Well in my opinion and if im reading your post correctly you damaged your old stock rocker panels correct? If so just cut the old ones out and get I believe its 2x6 metal tube and weld them on as replacement and theyre pretty good from what I hear thye be pretty much Rock Sliders but better

Yeah, my old ones are rusted through in a coupl spots. I've seen the rectangular tube replacment, its cool but not what I want. I want stock rockers as I don't wheel it and have no need for sliders.

I believe the 97 and up have slight differences. Also check to see how the inner panels are. The rocker panels are made up of two peices an inner, and an outer. You need both to give it strength and to make up the pinch seam.
