That's also an option and i have found all of the parts I need on Summit. The only factor is getting it bored, sleeved and machined.
I wont let it go to scrap because its mine if i have to ill borrow a trailer and take it with me to school. Its my baby its not going anywhere.

Your best bet is probably a jy motor.... but if you do the tear down and clean the block machine work is not too bad... maybe 300.... shouldn't have to have it sleeved.... just bore .030 over... unless your cylinder is mangled... nice jeep btw

Thanks.

Well yesterday I went and looked at a xj motor. Its cranking but not starting. We ran a scan tool on it and it appears its just the crank sensor. Because the engine just wont spark. So im bringing my crank sensor over there after work today and we will see. The engine has 230xxx on it but its got great compression and he only wants 300$ for the whole thing. I would get the manifold the pumps altanator... everything. $250 if we take it our ourselves.

Got my fingers crossed!

I take it you don't have a pick and pull nearby?

Hope you get it fixed. Pick and pull is great if you have one nearby. Either way, just fix it, don't scrap it! Though I have not done it myself replacing a motor on an XJ should not be too hard. Everything is pretty easy to get to.

Hows your oil pressure? A bad rod knock will have very low oil pressure and kill a motor very quickly by sending the rod thru the side of the engine block.
I just had 3 lifters fold. Replaced lifters and pushrods head gasket head bolts.. New oil filter and finished it the same day fired it up have 65psi oil pressure but still have a knife.. How do you know you can have a bad beating with good oil pressure?
