check your exhaust. mine slips out of the mount at the back of the crossmember on occasion and ends up sitting on the crossmember. makes one heck of a racket.

I gave up on keeping it in there after putting it back 3 times, I plan to cut the L shaped piece off the exhaust, slide it into the mount, and jack the exhaust up and wld the L shaped piece back on, just haven't had the time

It isn't a rod knocking. My money's on the fact your trans mount and/or engine mounts are bad allowing your exhaust to hit on the trans crossmember.

Man and I thought it would have been header too, just to be sure check bolts to make sure they are tight. My old CJ did the same thing, cracked header.

Go simple and basic first. Always use your own senses to check things out first. Bang on it, look at it.....

Check the bolts on the torque converter. If they are run out it will allow the torque converter to spin on the flywheel and sound terrible.

Try 5 quarts of 15-40 T3 Rotella and a quart of MMO for 1000 miles. Use a Napa Gold filter.
