My turn to revive an old thread.
My spare tire mount on my 1996 XJ is an OEM Jeep mount like the one in this thread from another forum (sorry no pic of mine right now, but this works):
https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=986671
Haven't used it in years and want to use it again. The issue is the center. IIRC, I have to thread that housing up (where the 3 wheel studs are located) so that they will be high enough to engage the wheel with the tire sitting on the arms of the unit. Right now mine is tightened all the way down and doesn't want to unthread much. Shot some PB blaster in the top yesterday and tried today, with wrenches to hold the bolt head at the bottom and the jamb nut. Still not working.
Gave it another good dose of PB blaster today. Can tell that the Blaster hasn't made it through the threads because it isn't leaking out the bottom yet. Was careful to wipe the Blaster off anyplace I didn't want it too. Hoping some road vibration on my commute helps the PB get down in there.
BTW, mounting the spare upside down up there "works" but is sketchy, looks bad, and you can hear the thing wobble when you stop.

Used some CRC Freeze-Off today during a work break and it moved a little. Going to use the tire on it tomorrow as leverage on that hub to try to get it moving. Probably need to remove the roll pin at the top, take it all the way apart, clean and anti-seize that center bolt.
Looks like 4 safety Torx to remove it from the mounts. Thanks MOPAR and Steve Jobs!

If I don't have it moving by noon tomorrow, that is probably what I'll do.

Looks like mine is attached with H7 Security Hex fasteners. Ordered yet another set of security bits. Only place I found with anything larger than H6 Security bits was Home Depot, had to order and will be a few days until they get here.
