Rounded nut on stud
Hello Everyone,
I have a rounded corroded nut on a stud. I can get to it with a 9 point deep socket and it doesn't work. I can't get to it even with a dremel to cut the nut. The stud isn't super thick (hold body trim on) and I think a nut splitter would break the stud. I can barely get need nose vice grips on it to get it out. I'm really stumped at what to do.

I had a simular problem with a wheel stud. I ground the stud/bolt to where the back of the nut was, then drilled the stud through the nut and whacked the nut with an air hammer to pop it loose.

I tried a bunch of things when I couldnt get a lug nut off. One of these did the trick. Advance auto sells a set of 5 for 27$, but I'm sure you can buy individually at a harbor freight or something

Well if the nut isn't rounded super bad, like you still have a few good shoulders, what I've done in the past is beat that socket on and just muscle it off with whatever ratchet you're using.

This will often work even with wheel locks. Find a socket that's slightly smaller than the nut and drive it onto the stripped nut. It might help to soak the stud for a while with penetrating oil if it's corroded.
