Default Running hot

My 00 i6 4.0 cherokee has been running hot lately.

earlier it was up to 250 and the check guages light was on

i had a recent oil change and after that the gauge said the pressure was at 80 but recently it has been about 50ish

i recently put a new radiator in it with antifreeze

new fans as well

what else could be making it run hot? oil related problem?

also it only gets hot when its idling. when its moving its about 210 or below

Water pump could be bad and not circulating the coolant. Are your coolant levels normal? Losing coolant? I would go ahead and pull and replace your thermostat also.

Check to see if your casting number on your head is 0331. If so, it may be a cracked head and you could be losing coolant. The number is on the driver side middle of the head facing up.

Make sure your electric fan works, and make sure your radiator is not clogged.

Have you tried burping the system.? Could be a air pocket left in the system.

My 94 I6 4.0 has been doing the same runs hot at idle cools off then reved up. I thought it was due to fan shroud but after today it runs at normal temps due to my water pump.
The pump finally went all the way out on me forcing me to change it. Not that I didn't want to but just kept putting it off for other things.
Its $37 for a lifetime warranty at O'Riellys. And about a 1-2hr job if not doing it in a parking lot of a bank.
Id start with that.

There is plenty of information on overheating on our Xj's, do a few searches and you will come up with a lot of info.
First off, when problems occur after maintenance, ALWAYS go over the work that has been done.
Overheating while idling is ususally more related to (viscous)fan issues/(blocked radiator too, but see further regarding waterpump). Your waterpump being bad would cause more overheating on highway speeds and if it would be bad enough to overheat at idling, you would very likely have overheating at higher speeds too.
But do a search, several issues could be going on.

ok thanks guys. i will probably just go ahead and put a new water pump in it. seems like the best option. seeing that just about everything else has already been replaced.
