Running like Crap after Idling
Hey.
I got an 85 Cherokee with the 2.8L Chevy V6, and a strange thing happens sometimes. After I spend a while either in idle or revving low, like after going over a bumpy trail that I don't want to go fast over, after about thirty seconds of highway time the engine falters, sputters, then dies.
I'll try to start it, and after about 30 seconds of cranking it will start up, and then die after about thirty more seconds. I'll repeat this ritual three to five times, and then it runs great.
WTF? Would a new(er)/clean(er) carburettor help? New fuel pump? It kinda seems like it's leaning out, but I don't know that for sure. Also, maybe this is related, my gas gauge will wander depending on my RPM and acceleration, up to a half gauge.

The 2.8 has been called the worst motor put in a jeep, it was so great in the S10s ive seen either. Sounds like mabye the float is hanging up. ( just a shot in the dark) you could swap it out for a 3.4 out of a camaro if you come across a wrecked one theyre both 60° V6. Just My Opinion

We'll I've changed the floats and needle and the the valves with some from a 50k '88 Blazer carburettor. It can idle for as long as I want now, but it still stutters occasionally. Also: The gauge was a problem with the grounding.
