My dads sayin that the auto and the stick ones are different. I think autozones was like 75 or 85 i dont remember.

On the Renix system the TPS for the auto is a manuals TPS with an extra potentiometer added on for the trans that shares the throttle shaft. If you leave the transmission connection unplugged (nowhere to plug it into anyway) it will work just fine.

The TPS for a stick has one potentiometer and one wiring plug. The TPS for an automatic has two potentiometers and two electrical plugs. One plug for the fuel injection and one for the transmission. The one for the fuel injection is identical to the stickshift version.

so i can get the auto one, if its cheaper and not have a problem? some of the things you said describing them is new. and i just got busted at school for bein on here

Yes. We actually have done it for a few customers, one older woman had a renix jeep that needed a TPS, felt bad so I did everything I could to cost her less. This is one of the things I did to save her money, a high school kid I hired for the summer actually told me about it 2 years ago, thought it was BS til I saw him throw it in without any problems on his.

I skimmed through this post (forgive me if i missed it) but if the poster is having a high speed miss..... how about the basics? secondary ignition wires/cap, if it is only happening in 4th a lower rpm range?????

We did all that cap, rotor, wires, plugs, new map sensor, new idle air control valve. It started to do it all the time no matter what gear or how fast i was going, got to the point were sometimes it didnt want to take off. When it first started it, it did it in 4th at about 1300-1500 rpm.

Just called the Schucks O'Reilly's down here and they have a Borg Warner TPS for an 88 XJ chief straight six automatic for 48.99

My dad got one from napa and sense he works their he gets a discount so it only ended up being 20 bucks for the auto one. This better fix it!

Could the o2 sensor of the cat be doing this?
