Default rust issues. Help please!

Hello
I am new to this forum and have an XJ that I bought new in 2001 in the UK. The the as come that my XJ needs some serious body repair. I have bought new inner and outer sills from Raybuck autos. I have also bought rear quarter panels. My other half as removed the interior and the floors need some repair. I have seen you can buy new 1/2 floors from the USA. Can you buy a cargo floor too? I cant find one. The welder says it is much easier if he can cut out and replace with ready made panels. Also is there anything else I should be doing. My XJ will have extensive rust protection when its been put back together.

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately, if the rust on your XJ is that extensive, there could be more almost anywhere. If the cargo floor is bad behind & inboard of the wheel tub check underneath that area, particularly the shackle box, the frame,& the inner skin of the quarter panels. At the front, the area under the battery tray & the inner fenders behind (but uncomfortably close to) the shock top mounts - you can check that from under the hood, saves removing the liner, unless/until a repair is needed. Unlikely, & I may have just been unlucky, the roof immediately above the windshield, so under the rubber seal & the rear door shuts above the door tops.

The roof is solid and the wings/under the bonnet area is good.

rear wheel arch tubs aren’t great. I’m committed to fixing it. My XJ owes me nothing and it’s a fantastic runner. Really looking forward to seeing it fixed.

Never underestimate UK craftsman and craftsmanship. Some of those cats repair things we dismiss as hopeless, and they make it look like child's play.

The mopar full length floor pans and replacement front seat mounts are really good in my opinion. Did these on my 98 a couple years back and has now become the standard for me when addressing floor repair.

Unfortunately can't speak the same for the rear trunk area as far as availability.

I can attest to this rear pan from classic-to-current is not that great. It doesn't really accommodate for a full rear trunk space cutout and repair like the front pans. Rather flimsy and not setup to tie into the wheel wells with ease. I do suppose its better than just using a sheet of metal straight from a supplier.

I found the link above with a google search, the one that is reportedly flimsy. I also saw a link for one on EBay that cost twice as much. However I didn’t look at shipping for either one.

Here’s mine. It would have been cost prohibitive for me to buy everything. I had another vehicle to drive so it didn’t matter how long it took. I bought several sheets of steel from work for about $250 and went at it. One thing for sure is I was determined to save it. There is also no flimsiness in the panels I made.

I’ll be adding to the thread again once winter is over and I can start another summer of working on it.

Can't fail to be impressed, speaking as one who's spent months on & off (weather & time constraints permitting) replacing the left shackle box (with the one from my parts XJ) & the floor above it (with a piece carefully crafted from an old (although actually much newer than the XJ) Citroen door - when I don't weld, and having to keep the XJ usable all the while. Nearly done now though, just have to repair/replace the rear valence outboard of the bumper bracket, so there's something to bolt the end flange of the shackle box to.

I agree with this. I restored MGs as for years before I got back into Jeeps. I took a night school course taught by an English Panel Beater. We had access to many sheet metal forming tools (English wheel, planishers, benders, shears, etc.) and used them but he taught us what we could make with the simplest of things ... like a the edge of a bench and piece of railway iron. The biggest thing was proper hammer welding, basically fusing sheet metal together with just a torch and no filler rod. That was about 40 years ago and its all stayed with me.
