Rusty floor replacement question
Hi all, like I stated I have a severe rust issue like normal with my jeeps floors and I cannot find a complete front kit for a 1990. But I can find a complete kit listed for a 1995-96 tunnel and all and I was wondering since they have the same interiors would it fit in my jeep? I would like to stay away from using individual panels if I can and just get a complete one piece pan. Thanks in advance

Your transmission tunnel is rotted out too?
96 added airbags but there's just a bracket for mounting it under the seat. As well some cross beams were added for the forward seat legs so a 96 floor will need some reinforcing to take an older seat.

I have a little rotted out hole right near my tcase adjustment on the tunnel so I am just going to do the whole floor pan. Maryland weather gets pretty rough and they use alot of salt so I figure if it's new it should last another 23 years haha

Be sure to treat it with some kind of underliner from the outside. I did my floors this december and only got the spray on stuff, but this summer I plan on bedlining the undercarriage with the roll on stuff.

I dont think you will find a complete floor for our XJs. I believe what you saw was for the rear cargo area. No one Ive ever seen sells a "complete" floor. Ive seen up to 57" to do both the front and rear section. If you have a link please send it. As my sons needs a floor on both sides.

My first floorpan repair lasted about 3 years. I didn't get all the rust the first time. Make sure you don't make that mistake, lol.
Ditto on the Classic2current parts. Good quality and the price isn't bad.

Ditto above on there not being a complete assembly, you have to buy the left and right pans and build your own tunnel parts.

You could do what I did and buy a wrecked XJ the same yr as yours to use for parts. The one I bought had been rear ended hard but great from diff forward same color even $225.

Radi,
You say you left some rust, what did you mean by that? If I removed every bit of rust from mine, I'd have no Jeep left. On some stuff I grinded and wired brushed it and sprayed multiple coats of rust inhibitor on and then primed and painted. I'm figuring that this should encapsulate the rust from oxygen and water and should last a bunch of years, not forever, but enough.
Did you do the same or left untreated rust?
Thanks

Yeah, either you have to remove ALL OF IT, or encapsulate it so what's left cannot grow.
If you used a rust treatment like POR15 or the Eastwood stuff or something similar you should be fine. As long as the rusted areas remain completely sealed the repair could last indefinitely.
I cut out the bad rot. Areas that weren't perforated got wire-wheeled but not directly treated with anything. Mistake.
I attached the new sheet metal then sealed it all up. That of course left tiny amounts of rust in the seams where the sealer could not penetrate.
One little pinhole in the sealer will let air and water into those untreated seams and then hold it there. Not smart. Don't do it that way, lol.

I'm going to tackle the left side of mine next weekend. I have a few spots that are very extreme compared to most of the write UPS I've seen here on CF. I have yet to rip the carpet up but I know its going to be worse that what I can see from underneath. I have a good 2 1/2 ft length wise hole thats from the rocker to the frame. Thats what I'm going to take care of first. I'll be sure to take pictures and share them. Its pretty bad all over but she's my DD, I'll be doing it piece by piece. I have a donor I'm gong to cut it out of and just patch it like that as well.
