Note, do not cheap out on # 4, or you will end up doing it again after the first HOT day.

I've had good luck with vinyl roof spray by 3m or hoodliner spray 3m

True, you gotta get something heavy duty or for headliners cuz regular spray adhesive wont cut it ! I think I used 3m headliner adhesive from napa at like $12.99 a can!

I redid my a couple of years ago. Did the headliner, overhead console, sun visors all at once. With matching factory color material. That I got off the Internet. Aprox. $50 for material and spray adhesive. And it took an long afternoon to do. Looks just like the original. Although I liked the ideas of putting something else up there. I my self wouldn't use something that would hinder possible future resale of the vehicle. (should you decide to sell it down the road) I know if I would be purchasing a used XJ, I would use the fact it has a Texas flag mounted as a headliner. To knock the price down. But with that said. It is your vehicle, put what ever you want up there. (**** carpeting, astro-turf, what ever floats your boat) I also took the time to put sound damping material under the headliner, before re-install.

I like the overhead console, but unfortunately my 2000XJ is lacking it...can you buy those offline? It'd be a cool place to mount my auxillary switches

I'll be out of this forum in about 2-3 days, almost done with XJ.
Cadillac and Expedition engines are next.
You are all right. Why should I waste my time trying to help somebody?
From now on I will not.

Let the countdown begin!!

Ya I thought about the flag thing for along time but screw it. I'm not selling my XJ as it will be an offroad toy one day (when i get a DD). Customized cars don't sell for as much usually but nobody else has got one!

You are Right. They don't sell as good. Also why I wouldn't paint it Hot pink, Or purple metal flake, Or even Zebra striped ( even though it would be one of a kind.) look at this, If you where in the market for a Used XJ, would you bother to look at this. sagging headliner-001pink.jpg

It is like a real "Barbie Jeep" Just needs a little more Pa-dazzle. Maybe rhinestones glued to rims.

I swear I remember seeing online somewhere a hard plastic headliner replacement. It was almost like a drop-in truck bed material. I might be crazy...

I did the same thing on my old '89. Worked great, looked factory new when I was done.

Alternatively: On my recently bought '89 I just used upholstery pins(corkscrew shaped) to tack it up. I didn't want to spend much as I'm selling it in November when I move back home.
