Sawing (?) Noise at highway speed
Well, I have been solving many things on my 87 XJ Wagoneer.
So that I was expecting all the new parts would have solved a too noisy drive.
Guess what. It didn't.
As I didn't managed to record the sound properly, here is a (very) humble imitation
I do not pretend it is very close to the noise, but it might help.
At low speed : no noise.
At Highway speed (from about 45Mph) :
sawing sound : its sounds like someone is sawing under the car. Goes faster with speed, not engine rpm, (to the point of not really hearing it anymore over abour 70mph as the interval between 2 noises becomes too short). IT STOPS when I put the car in neutral gear while driving.
better than my imitation is this video.
Same sound but much faster
I really struggle to find a place accepting to diagnose my issue.
So I need to Guide them if I want things to be done, Order the parts and ask them to install them..
Not efficient, I know.
Thanks
PS :
- car is well maintained, no significant off rad ever
- no noise at all at low/reasonable speed
- engine is FINE
- all U joints checked, some replaced
- New rear shock absorbers + transfer case mount, exhaust seems ok (no hole as far as I can see)
- Transfer case + gearbox + D44 got a fluid change 1 year ago by a non specialist, I didn't check levels and procedure to refill. I'll do it. Just in cas they forgot to fill properly something.
