Its suppose to clean/clear all the carbon/sludge junk out of your engine rather quickly. You add it to both your gas and oil. You can also do what they call a "hot soak" and suck some up through the vacuum line connected to your brake booster.
I have used it in my Jeep, with either no difference or it was unnoticeable.
It seems to work better in cars, as it worked phenomenaly in my friends acura and another kids honda...maybe because its made out of rice or something!?!?

As far as I know...Its only for your engine.

I think they might make a different product for trannys, but not extremely sure of that. I know they have a line of products though, not just the engine variety.
yeah, it helped in mine, but not as much as i hoped it would. maybe since I didnt run it through the crankcase the results werent as obvious. waiting until my next oil change to do that.

Maybe when oil change time comes, which is soon, I'll be able to tell?!?!

if you want real results real fast with simple performance use octane boost or injector cleaner in with your gas, I do it every tank. it takes away every sputter and knock and sounds oh so nice when you floor it to 4000 rpms trying not to let a rice rocket cut you off!
I have run octane boost and njector cleaner together... rocket fuel

Good Stuff
Seafoam is a wonderful thing. The 71 350 rocket that came in my 78 cutlass was soooo sludged up when i got it i had to take the stock manifold and valve covers off and scrape about three inches of crud and slime out of the valley and in the return holes.after everything was crud free i sprayed the entire thing down with deep creep and put some regular seafoam in the oil and gas and fogged the cylinders with the deep creep. once i got it back together i gave it a shot of ether inthe air cleaner and fired it up...it rolled black smoke for a few minutes and i mean rolled....fire dept sent a car out to check. but after everything in the cylinders burnt off it smoothed out ran very well compared to the chuggalug i had to do get it up the driveway.i ran some oil flush before the oil change...have put 40k on it over 2 years since then and other than tune ups, a motor mount, octane boost and a bunch of shiny stuff i havent touched it. pull the spark plugs and all you see is shiny aluminum. no carbon build up.

So they made higher octane gas that would not pre-ignite by adding those 3 compounds mentioned. Using premium gas in an engine designed for reg. gas (low compression like ours) is IMHO a waste of money. Using octane boost is a total waste of money.
It is a common misunderstanding that the manufactures promote because it sells alot of product.
Injector cleaner does just that, it cleans some deposits. It doesn't add power either.
In fact that whole isle of products at the parts store are pretty much
'feel good additives, what my Dad use to call 'mechanic in a can'.
Most of them consist of not much more than kerosene.
Sorry, don't mean to rant on or burst your bubble, just hate to see money wasted.
Add up the cost of all those feel good products and by the end of the year you could use that money for a better breathing exhaust system or a port and polish cylinder head - something that will actually boost your power .

well I have talked to PLENTY of people who swear by it and I do to. my jeep rusn so much more smoothly, without any knocks or pings. I have a noticeable boost in power, its like using great premium gas over 2 year old rusty gas can gas. thats what the difference feels like to me. like abominable01xj said, using all of those things together has prolonged his engine life. I have also noticed that my oil isnt as dark at the end of 3000 miles and my exhaust sounds smoother too. I can only imagine I am getting a more complete burn of my fuel.
you have your opinion, I have mine, and I know which works better for my XJ

Ok so getting back on topic...
so if you use the seafoam for the diffs, is that something you run for a while, drain and refil with diff oil or is it something that you just leave in?
