Default Seat Problems?

I'm 6' and it is sort of hard to squeeze myself into the xj cherokee. When I crawl between the roof/seat, it is very tight. OK once I get into the seat. I need to lower the seat about 4". How would I go about doing this? Maybe aftermarket seat brackets? Thanks...I know someone else has solved this problem.

Only 6' huh?

I remember when my 1996 XJ was new, the big problem I had was my legs (back of thighs) not making contact with the seat. Finally grabbed an unused lumbar pad for an office chair from work and put that on the seat bottom for legs to rest against. Eventually the seat collapsed (it looked like it had been in a totaled vehicle when I replaced it this year).

Replaced it with an electric (just the seat, left the motors and electric junk behind), partially leather seat from a Grand Cherokee and it fits me great. But it might not help your problem, because it seems like it sits higher than the XJ seat. Could just be bad memory and such. It looks like it is the same seat height visually.

Not sure if there is a way to shorten the height without some floor pan work and not sure what else.

What year? There seems to be some differences between years on how seats are attached.

I'm 6' and have no problem.

I don't think there is an easy mod.

I am also ~6ft and have no real issue in my '96, have the seat right back, and inclined back, like a low-rider bro

pretty sure I have seen write ups of how to get a bit more space, some XJ owners are quite a bit over 6ft

The power seats appear to be a bit taller. I'd guess as much as an inch taller. But, I might be speaking a little early. I had "Sport" seats in my 2001 XJ. I changed those out for Power Classic & then Power Leather Limited seats, all for the XJ. I guess it could be possible the Classic / Limiteds are just taller, whether power or not.

Another thing I noticed, with my 2000 2dr XJ I had, it was ALOT easier getting in / out. When I got my 2001 4dr XJ, I hit my head just about every time getting into the Jeep. That "B" pillar shifted back afew inches on the 2dr is really is nice.

Which seats do you have in your XJ?

If you have access to a welder (or a buddy's), I would think you could cut the feet part of the brackets down and re-weld the mounting feet back on. Will you get 4" ...maybe, you just got to try it.

Years ago I had a truck I bought (used) and later I discovered the PO remove one of the seat tracks and set a 2x4 on the hump under the pass side of the seat. There was only one seat track available from GM -- I bought it ...it turned out to not be the correct one. After a bunch of wasted time looking through a junk yard, I eventually cut and reweld the legs to make it fit. Wasn't that hard to do and it didn't take much time. Power seats on most vehicles generally don't go as low as manual.

Good luck

You must be a very long waisted 6 ft. I am 6 3,long waisted and fit ok. I do have a power driver seat and I got 1/4 inch extra by changing the seat bracket for 3/8 inch steel plate. That was enough to make a difference.

Thanks. I'm still a little fat. I was at 261..now at 221. My ideal weight would be around 210...It's just hard to squeeze in under the door frame and into the seat. Part of my problem is that I had to have a titanium plate put in my neck, after an EF4 tornado blasted through my house/70 acres. Didn't leave much and my wife had a broken leg. I kept falling a lot and finally went to the Neurosurgeon and he found the problem. Not a pretty sight when I came too and water is pouring in via the missing roof. Trees laying around on the house, and the roof is missing/windows blown out. A night I would not like to repeat. It was about 8:20 pm and the power was already off from other storms that had raged through. so we were sitting and talking in the dark. Suddenly my wife's little dog shot off the couch and into the bedroom. My wife said that's a torndo and we jumped into the walk in closet. 7 died on my road...This was the Lake martin tornado. The rest is history, it is very confusing to come to in the dark and all that fun stuff. That is the same day that monster EF4 hit Tuscaloosa...it was deafening. On my bday april 27 2011.... Worst day/night in the history of Alaabama Over 238 died that day/night, just in this state alone. Bury the dead and life goes on...

In total, 348 people were killed as a result of the outbreak, which includes 324 tornado-related deaths across six states and an additional 24 fatalities. In Alabama alone, 238 tornado-related deaths were confirmed by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) and the state's Emergency Management Agency.[2][10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Super_Outbreak

I wasn't referring to weight , sorry you took it that way. I was referring to torso length as opposed to leg length.

the tornado sounds like a big disaster.

the neck plate would make entry more difficult. I go in head first and bend.

four inches doesn't seem doable.

good luck
