I know the wiring is in the 98 xj for cruise control, but is the wiring in the jeep for electric and heated seats? if not is there a separate harness I can get from a part out? if yes then will the grand Cherokee seat plug into the harness? from reading you guys have said the grand seat will bolt up to the xj bases.

EDIT: I just realized something. I don't know if heated seats were an option in '98. Pretty sure not in '97 but definitely available in '99.
If so then I don't know if you would have that connector under the passenger seat.
It was there in my '00 which made it plug and play to add the option.

Well I can tell you that most of what you need to put heated/power seats from an XJ in an XJ that did not come with them is there.
First see if you have this connector under the passenger seat side carpet.

You will need the rest of the harness that attaches to that.

You will need the silver circuit breaker that I believe to be in Position 26 in the fuse box in the passenger side footwell.

Then of course you will need the power seat bases. Make sure the passenger side base has a white box and a relay on it. The white box is called the SHIM.
Seat Heater Interface Module.

Then of course the switches and bezel. And if you are real OCD like me cause you loose the ashtray you buy the ashtray that goes in the cup holder that Jeep offered when you had heated seats. LOL.

And of course the heated seats themselves. Don't forget the switches and seat side bezels.

One last thing. Make sure you get the seat belts on the power seat bases. They are a different length, longer, then manual seat ones.
Also finding the seats themselves might be a little tough. Let alone ones that work and are in good shape.
To hide a crappy seat like this.

I highly recommend the CoverKing Rhinohide seat covers. Not cheap but really like them.

Also if you get lucky and the heated seats you find are still in a Jeep and can be tested a indicator light on the switch that is not blinking is a good thing.

No problem.
And there is couple things I forgot to mention
My buddy just put a power driver's side seat base in his '97 XJ.
So at least a power driver's side seat was available in '98 and maybe '97.
Still not sure of the heated seats or power passenger sides seat though.
Usually a Jeep either came with a driver's side power seat or both sides power and heated.
It was one or the other when it came to those options.
So understanding is that '97 and '98 colors for the interior are technically called Mist Gray and Saddle.
'99 and up are technically called Agate and Camel.
Agate is a little darker then Mist Gray. Saddle is a little more orange looking then Camel.
So if you get the parts from a donor that is '99 and up the side seat molding will not match the rest of the molding in your Jeep.
Mist gray first and Agate second.

See the difference?
Same for the seats. But since hopefully you will grab both front and back it might not be a big deal visually.
The molding on the other hand more so.

And about the cruise control.
My understanding is that you will want the wheel switches from a '97 or '98.
Supposedly '99 and up don't work. Something about ohms.
Pretty sure the rest of the set up does not matter. Can be from '97 and up.
One last tip if you are pulling the parts for the cruise yourself.
Try to make sure the wheels are straight on the donor Jeep and in yours when you make the swap.
This is so the clockspring, which has to be a cruise control one by the way, is centered.
When you pull the clockspring from the donor Jeep you will see a little hole in each half.
Then might not be lined up but if you have to rotate it just a bit to get them to line up that is OK.
Then you stick a zip tie in there to keep it from rotating until you do the install.
If you can't do that there is a recentering procedure. Just easier if you can.

When you research this they really don't mention it.
Not specifically. One thread for the install I found, I did this myself to my '00, said to put the new clockspring in the way the old one came out.
I just think it should be spelled out more clearly.
Again not the end of the world if you have to recenter it. Oh and #6 in Figure 16 is that hole I was telling you to put the zip tie through

i got an all electric WJ seat from an 03 and love it. put on XJ rails it it was able to fit. the problem is, even the recline feature is electric so i need to figure out which power line controls that and run power to just the recline feature. weekend project.
