Default sensor switch

I know this is probably a stupid question, but do I need to drain all my coolant to replace my coolant sensor switch at the back of my engine? its a 96 xj with a 4.0 engine high output.

Man, you are maken this hard. No, you don't need to drain the coolant.

Hope it goes OK, I had one of those that somehow really was no fun.

No you don't but if it's the little one way back near the firewall on the very corner of the head I've ended up breaking everyone I've tried to change. They are VERY brittle and it's a tight fit. But since they are just some sort of hard plastic or something you can just Crazy Glue it back together and keep rolling. It will still work just fine.

That is not a switch. It is the sending unit for the temp gauge. I've never had a problem changing it out but I do remove what is in the way so I can get at it.

Default coolant sensor

I may have worded my original post wrong. What I really wanted to know was will coolant pour out of port if if I remove the temp sending unit at rear of the engine? I just put in a new clutch and didn't want a wet mess all over the place.

You might get a small bit come out but it won't be a lot. If you are worried you can drain just enough to lower the level down below where the sending unit is which is a high point.
