I hope you saved the old belt. If it looks OK, it probably is.

No I didn't save it. No matter what I did it always squeaked. Put the new belt on, adjusted once and it never squeaked again. In the trash the old belt went. A new belt isn't expensive enough for me to save the old one that always squeaked

Should have tossed the old belt in the back, it can get you out of a jam if the new one breaks.

You have a satellite phone? Really though, did you try soaping the "squeaker". For sure, that worked for me once on a new belt. Glad you gotr' done.

Seen it before. The Harmonic balancer slowly creeps towards the timing chain cover and makes the whole thing out of alignment. Replace the belt and it will stop for a bit but the squeak will come back. Eventually the balancer/belt will start rubbing against the timing chain cover...... Just speaking from experience.

Just look down at it. there is 2 metal parts separated by a thin layer of plastic/rubber. they have to be perfectly lined up.. The creeping happens over the plastic/rubber part. From over tightening the belt over the years I suppose.

This the rubber is there to be elastic and absorb vibration, it just ages & wears out. Replace it before it gnaws a hole in the front cover.
