Gray sealant from any auto store and 80W is what I run but it depends if you have a limited slip or anything as to if you will need a additive lubricant for the clutches.

RTV for the gasket and buy a gallon of gear lube with a pump, then do the front diff too.

Lube Locker makes a gasket that is much easier than using RTV.

I just serviced both the front and rear diffs and replaced the RTV with the Lube Locker gaskets....gaskets are supposedly reusable as well.

Got mine from Quadratec...

Those look good. Remind me of the reusable gasket on a transmission in one of my cars. They come off easy enough, are reusable and work.

I was actually going to just use RTV, but now maybe not.

Thanks for the links.

On a related note I was watching a TV show and saw the inside of a manufacturing plant and there were doing some engine assembly using only RTV for some components.

I prefer the Red/Orange colored RTV myself. As often as I go in there checking for damage and water, gaskets are too expensive.

I used a Fel-Pro gasket for my Dana 35 and added some RTV gasket maker as well...yea I know it's overkill, but oh well. I hate the rubber plug they use, it leaks!!! Might weld on a fill plug next time it's off. And yes, I used 80W-90 LSD Gear Oil for the rear. I will probably be using Redline 75W-90 gear oil for the front since I have a few extra quarts lying around.

80w-90 GL-5 Gear Oil
Fel-Pro Paper gasket
RTV Black (THIN LAYER!!!!) each side of gasket

i didn't even wait for it to dry a bit, just slapped it on and filled it. No leaks at all.

The key in any gasket replacement is surface prep. Make sure you scrape all the old gasket material off with a flat razor blade, then sand it with some 150-200 grit sand paper to get rid of everything else. Should be nice and shiny before putting the new gasket on.

For example:

And then jazz it up a bit with some paint:

^^nice job!!

I filled my D35 till fluid started coming out, then put the rubber plug in. However, it continued to slowly drip out (even tho very little), kinda bugged me. Was I supposed to get a new rubber plug when I changed the fluid out??

No, you should not have to replace your plug. You just overfilled the diff..

That level will not hurt by any means but it will not leak if you put it just below the hole where you can barely touch it with your pinkie when you hang it on the edge.
