Default Shift Lever Not Aligned?

Hi all, first post here! I have a 2000 XJ and it's pretty stock. I have been fixing parts of it as it has 200k miles on it. The last thing (for now) that is an outstanding issue has been the Gear Shift Lever.

The lever doesn't align with the P, R, N, D, etc. (the dot that shows which gear you're in). To me, it's not a big issue as I can feel that and know where it is. However, lately, the lever has been difficult to switch into Reverse. I have to shift it down and then push it back up towards Park to get it engaged. Similarly, I noticed I had an issue starting my car because it would not quite be in Park. I'd have to nudge the lever forward a 1/4" to get the car to realize it was in park to start.

Trying to find out which parts to fix/replace. Thoughts?

Thank you!

there is an adjustment possible.

I saw instructions for it somewhere recently

I suspect it would be covered in the FSM

edit . I think it was under the console, so have a look in the FSM, at the lever attachment area
