They are Both complete junk. i have used them both and they were extremely stiff.
For a "cheaper" shock i highly reccomend the Doetch Tech's.. they are about $150-175 for all 4.. Pretty smooth ride, a decent shock for on/off road..
But i would suggest the Bilstiens, a tad more, but Compare them to a few others and you will feel the difference.

I have the Rough Country Nitro 9000 shocks, they do their job well. Though I will admit they are a bit stiff, I honestly couldent care less, if I wanted a cushy ride I would have bought an old Cadillac

I bought just 30 min ago, doetch tech baja ryders, they cost me $240,complete,price,tax,and delivery, the reason I bought them is they have a larger piston, and piston rod and bump stop. some of the things I learned from talking to,quadratec,4wheelparts,morris offroad, were that the most popular shock was skyjackers, because of ride and I think cost.
I use mine as a dd and hunting, nothing serious. i do think the doetch tech can handle the offroad serious trails also.
In a nutshell, what the reviews I read were that rc,were stiff, skyjackers was smooth, and all others fell somewhere in the middle, what I found interesting is doetch tech puts together shocks for Rubicon exspress, and one article where an engineer that worked at monroe said almost all the shocks in the lower price range were made at monroe, the higher end shocks are made by the company that appears on them like bleistein. the companies all recommended hydros vs nitros unless you are off road all the time, and that if most could afford them they would buy, bleistein, fox, the higher end shocks, said they just handled better and lasted longer, keep in mind that most were serious offroaders that also used there jeeps as a dd.

I think people put way too much thought into shocks, unless you are into racing or care about having a super cushy ride as long as the ones you have are decent its not a really big deal. Call me crazy but im not spending 400 dollars on shocks.

I really like the DT's I have run./ Nice smooth shock, and cheap. I havent bought new shocks in yrs (rig are trail *****), so not much use. They still work smooth even after 5 yrs.

I have the RE monotubes, I really liked them for on road, sadly never got to take the jeep offroad with the lift kit, it broke down 3 days before I was about to put it to the test.
