Unhappy short and not so sweet

Well all,
Saved up and finally bought my 2007 Jeep Cherokee 2.8 crd limited. Exact colour, exact spec, my dream car.
1.5 miles from the dealer, I stopped to put diesel in and... it wouldn't start! After getting it towed back to the dealer and waiting for a week, I got it back! Apparently, it was something attached to the steering column at the top that had sheared off, preventing the ignition working.??
Anyway, whatever it was, it was mended and off I went, a happy owner. Until today, 1 week later and it's gone again!
same thing
Again, apparently, the mechanic has the correct part on order but had put a slightly different one in just to 'get me back on the road'.
He now says that the right part's on back order and could be a number of weeks!!! I can't believe that I've bought a 4WD vehicle for winter and it might be spring before it's repaired... I'm absolutely devastated and it may be the end of my Jeep relationship

Well there's your problem. You bought the wrong kind of Cherokee.

Do you know exactly what part is causing the problem? What did he call it?

You might have better luck on www.jeepforum.com or www.lostjeeps.com since those forums cater to the Liberty more closely than this forum.
