im sure you could talk them down if you go look at pay special attention to the steering linkage so you can point out new tie rods and take a look at the bushings too just nit pick so you can find stuff to talk them down.

That appears to be a pretty clean XJ ...looks like about a 3- 3.5" lift w/31" tires...Mileage is a bit high, but if well maintained, not too bad. A couple of things I'd check is FIRST: the condition of the floor boards....being from Indiana, in the Rust Belt, where they salt the roads, floor boards rot away...(Some forum members here can tell you all about that...)
SECOND: check for oil leaks, and other fluid leaks...check the air filter for oil from blow-by...expect some, with 210k on the clock, if it is the original engine.
THIRD, check u-joints....any driveline clunks or grinding while driving it..you should probably expect some whining, and some road noise from those tires.
Basically does it look like it has been well-maintained, or does it seem like it has been "rode hard and put away wet"..
Any evidence to determine why the previous owner would have traded it in...does anything EXPENSIVE seem wrong with it?
Price might be a bit high for a '96, but it does have some spendy options, like the roof rack, lift, and tires, so it has that going for it.
I'd try to negotiate price, but that works best if you have CASH...if you're planning on making payments THROUGH THE DEALER, don't expect them to move much...they're holding all the cards when it comes to negotiation.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

i've worked in dealerships for about 17 years, offere them 3000 and tell them you want a 1 year bumper to bumper warranty. its a 96, they got it for about 1500 bucks or less, im sure or it. 3000 and a 1 year warranty...... trust me

X2 my brother knocked off about 3 grand from the dealer about 6 months ago, now its even harder to sell cars so ask for that warranty! Looks like a good rig too. Miles are up there but these motors run strong, I would use the millage for negotiating the price as well.

almost 5 grand for a 13 year old vehicle with 200k miles? uhh...no. Too high. talk em down to 2k or less. modifications should not count towards vehicle price.
Oh by the way, those tires SUCK. AVOID

I would not want to make payments on one of these due to the fact that you can find a decent one out there for 2-3 grand. Save some cash and buy it outright, that way you are not making a payment and paying to keep it in one piece.
nothings worse than being car poor.
