Default Simple transmission question

OK ill keep it short. On a 1998 XJ sport with AW4, what is the amount of fluid from add to full on the transmission dipstick. Is it 1 quart like the oil dipstick or is it different?

I know its a stupid question, but it just seems to be different every time i do a drain fill

The transmission is supposed to be at operating temp before you measure. When I did my drain and fill I used 3 quarts to get it back to the same level on the dipstick when it was cold. I think the level in the trans. will change more rapidly than the motor.

Don't know exactly but a little fluid goes a long way on the transmission dipstick.

Add a little bit at a time; don't want to overfill your transmission.

IIRC a half quart. But as Mr Walker recommends, be prudent.

Don't forget to Dexron III/Mercon (D/M). If someone sold you ATF+4 go back and slap them.
