Sitting on my 94 w/96 Motor...runs great...except rod bearings are shredding metal...
Right so I still have my 94 XJ with the 96 motor and it runs super awesome minus the shredding metal dilemma. I pulled the insurance and she is eroding in my driveway. I don't have any real money left to do anything expensive to her, it is all left to my Jacked up TJ. But if I can pull the oil pan and replace the bad rod bearings...,I would do that...I have heard good results from pulling the pan and bad...I have all kinds of jacks and lifts(well not a real lift)...but I am willing to try. If this is the problem how long can I expect her to last with new rod bearings? My pops told me how the camshaft can wear and become shaped incorrectly but I still might be able to get away with it....I guess I won't know the whole truth until I get that pan off. Any suggestions from some old friends?

Honestly, the motor will probably last a short while with new bearings. The motor is probably toast anyway. The best advice would be to part it out or sell it and sink money into the TJ. Save whatever you can as far as parts that would work for the TJ (probably not many, but who knows). If the truck is rust free you should be able to part it out or sell it whole somewhat easily. Let us know what you decide

Also fast is fast. The first start up will redistribute metal into all the bearings. It will score everything. Could last a while could show signs of a problem just after first start up...
