Slightly over-torqued main bearing caps
1998 4.0- Currently building her up and doing some maintenance items under the hood.
After replacing the rear main seal I slightly over-torqued all the main bearing caps to ~85 ft-lbs, which is 5 lbs over what they should be. The bolts for the un-removed caps just barely tightened with the additional 5 ft-lbs.
Should I be concerned about the slight over-torqueing?
It's my understanding that this should not affect clearances, correct?
I still have the oil pan down and can loosen and re-torque them all if recommended. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about that either. Close enough. All torque really does is put a proper stretch on the bolts

Tech beat me to it but I was going to say that unless you patronize the Snap On truck a lot I doubt your torque wrench is that accurate

I'm surprised no one has said you need a new engine, you should sell your house and move to Uruguay, your life is over!
Even a calibrated torque wrench can result in actual torque off by more than that if your technique isn't good and/or you don't follow the instructions on lubricating the fastener.
Don't forget how these cars got built in a factory by people, they weren't recovered from an alien space freighter wreck.

Once the caps bottom out....clearance remains the same no matter how tight you make them....until something snaps or pulls out. ...5 ft lbs is nothing
