True for the most part.

I believe the point that salad and myself are trying to convey is that RTV is not a cure-all or an absolute necessity to use in all sealing applications.

It's not a substitute for good workmanship, and in many cases can be a hinderance when a part needs replacing.
I would much rather replace a thermostat gasket that had been previously applied using GasgaCinch or Indian Head Gasket shellac than one that was installed using RTV.

Is it new technology? Yes. Is it applicable to the old technology of our 4.0s and differential covers? Sometimes.

As a matter of fact, the newest valve cover gaskets and oil pan gaskets require nothing more than a dab of RTV in a few areas or none at all...

My '67 has cork valve cover gaskets and the water pump has paper. Seems to work ok. When I took of the diff covers, the front was RTV and the rear was paper. The rear did have a slight leak but the fluid level was still ok. We'll see how the Victor Reinz paper hangs together.

Got to go. Have to make my lunch - sandwich wrapped in waxpaper, put in paper bag with glass bottle of Coke. Or maybe I should use the lunch pail...
