I do as much crawling as I do mud. But I go on the highway and wanna be able to do long trips in good time with out making the motor scream the whole way.
I been searching google and cant seem to find anything good for gears or all I'm finding is stock sets
I know it sounds stupid but anybody got a link to were they found gears?
I'm starting to get annoyed with these online stores redirecting me to to crap I'm not looking for lol.

hey ...well i have the explorer 8.8(out of a 98)..i have 4.10 with 33 and 4.0/aw4 (4 speed auto with converter lock up) , and at 65mph its about 2100 rpm...i know the 5spd its a lil higher gear ratio than the auto in 5th compeared to the od in the auto, but u should be around 2200rpm to 2300 with 33s.
i do long trips to trails and drive it off road alot and i think that gear ratio is perfect for that combo, 4.56 wouldn't be bad choice either you will probably end up at 2300 to 2400 rpm at 65mph
the difference wont be to much between them 2....its more for whats gonna work for you

If you want to know what rpm you will be running at highway speeds just figure it out.

mph x gear ratio x 336 / tire diameter x OD ratio = rpm

70 x 4.56 x 336 / 33 x .79 = 2568 rpm

70 x 4.10 x 336 / 33 x .79 = 2309 rpm

That should be the rpms you would be running with the AX15 manual transmission in Over Drive.

as far as richmond gears...they are great....just dont get the pro gears...those are meant for drag racing only and they are a softer material than the street ones...they can take alot more of a shock without breaking...but in the street they will wear out quick...
