Thanks for the info I really appreciate it. The hole on the roof make me lean towards a police edition, because it looks like antennas could've been mounted there. I got ahold of jeep customer service, and they are gonna send me a complete build sheet I'm pretty pumped about that. My plans for the future are unidecided does anyone have any suggestions? She's gonna be a daily driver I wanna put a three inch lift on her I'm gonna undercoat the whole floor and wheel wells. Id like to put a swing sparre rack on it,and maybe a roof rack for ladders I paint in the summer so it would be useful. Deff gonna but a nice rockford sound system in her, and some bigger tires and rims would look awesome . Like I said she's a daily driver but she's gonna see some trails on the weekend, id like to give her a new paint job as well "plum crazy purple" is my fav color so I'm leaning towards that I just think it might not look right. As far as the engine id like to put roller rockers in it a msd ignition and swap the fuel injectors. I'm installing a k&n cold air intake and throttle body spacer. I'm looking for a good header as well id like to keep this jeep as nice as I can and keep her for a long time I'm open to suggestion lemme know what you think

Plllllleeeeaaaasssseeeee learn to use a period.
It looks like you got a very good deal on a stripped down service package XJ. These tend to also be my favorite as I'm a fan of the stripped "plain jane" look. As far as it's history, if it was actually in police service, the interior probably wouldn't be in that good of shape. I'm sure there would be some exposed wiring and damage to the interior panels from radio equipment, etc. also if it had a light bar actually mounted, there should be evidence where it was clamped on somewhere above the front doors. It really could've been used by a lot of different people/agencies though. Anywhere from "some guy that bought it that way" to forest service to police, etc. I know of several that are still in service where I live. Hopefully I'll be in the market when they're finally auctioned off.

I seriously doubt that was a police vehicle. As has been mentioned, it doesn't have a 120mph speedo and doesn't appear to be set up for it electrically. Doesn't the police package usually have an idle switch? Stripped down the way it is, I'm guessing this was a utility fleet vehicle or follow vehicle for wide loads, and the holes in the roof were pass-throughs for the wiring for amber light bars or scene lights.

Now as u mentioned mounting holes it does have some one the console by the gearshift on the left and right side. Something had to be mounted there I just wonder what it could be. Oddly enough it has what appear to be curtains that go from the windows all the way to the back hatch on left and right sides. I dont know how i forgot to mention them i dont think they are factory, but it does raise some more question for e ill post some more pics after work

I bet the previous owner had a CB radio and an antenna or something like that. Also maybe some other accessories that required switches on the dash and whatnot.

Here's something kind of interesting. Tonight I passed a rural mail Cherokee with a dual steering wheel setup. That certainly doesn't look like the XJ in this thread, but one thing did stand out about it: It had two amber beacon lamps mounted on the roof, one fore and one aft. They looked to be installed in exactly the same locations as the holes you have in yours.
After seeing that, I really think your holes were for the same kind of beacons for a utility truck or something like that.
