BTW, I like London better than Toronto. Nice town. My wife and I cruise up there now and then for a weekend - make a circuit of Niagara on the Lake and London then swing home via the Walpool Island ferrry.
I learned to play hockey in Point Edward when I was five years old...my grandmother was Canadian, my wife's grandparents are Canadian and now I have to have a passport to cross the bridge to have dinner and see friends I've known all my life. Can't even come back HOME without a passport. Ridiculous. Whatever these politicians are doing, they're doing the Wrong Thing.

Should have seen it when I was doing daily crossings with auto parts during 9/11. FUN!......not.
Love you guys but when you give a clerk a gun, and a little bit of power, the Gestapo would probably learn some lessons

I'm one of those troops pard....
What drew you to the conclusion of the fan?
Dueces rock. My buddy pulled one from a scrapyard while deployed and got it back to snuff. Used it to make his parts run. That thing was indestructible! I mean rambo jumped one didn't he?

When I worked for the DND (Department of National Defence) here back in the 80's we were bringing about 500 dueces out of storage. They had purchased them in '54 or so and mothballed them. 30 years later they decided to put them back in service. Other than removing the abspestos (sp?) brake pads and rubber brake lines and some tires they ALL started up and ran like champs.
I doubt we will ever see that kind of forward thinking on either side of the border again in our lifetimes.

Well according to searches here I found that the temp sensor on a 98 doesn't go to the guage but to the ECM. and that tells the temp guage where to point it's needle. I'm making an assumtion here but I would think the ECM would also tell the fan when to cycle on and off also. I turned on the AC which is an automatic signal for the ECM to cycle the fan. It was no longer turning on and off like it was 2 days previously. Sooooo short story long I tried to bypass the fan by wiring it directly to the battery and no spinning. Hey it happens.

Ya all metric stuff aside. Just an all American rough neck here. So ya ignorant. So main topic fan is first on my list I would check it buy hard wiring it with an in line fuse to a battery. Second I would test to make sure power is being sent when said temp is reached. Any thing beyond that is beyond me.

I've found that the Ambassador bridge has the best customs agents. Port Huron guys keep accusing me of wanting to move to the states when I'm visiting my cousins. And this coming from a guy with a shall we say darker complexion and a middle eastern accent.

I agree...but the aggravation is equal on both sides of the bridge or the tunnel or the ferry. The attitude and mood at the border has changed on both sides...and they're all carrying weapons. It is starting to look the way European airports look with police carrying Stens at the baggage counter.
When I was a kid - we're talking ten or twelve years old - we used to walk across the Blue Water Bridge and buy fireworks in Canada because they were illegal in the US. On the way back, we'd tuck them them in our pants. I remember the bemused expression on the customs guy's face while he asked "you boys aren't carrying any illegal fireworks, are you?". Now...they haul your butt off to secondary in handcuffs if you forget to declare a bag of Tim Horton's doughnuts and it is illegal to walk on the bridge.
We don't go over anymore unless it's for a weekend. It's too much aggravation for a night out or dinner. You spend more time sitting on the bridge than you do in the restaurant.

Anyways since the border is still open I need to make a run into Michigan for some parts. Seems no one on this side crashes or breaks their 97 and up XJs.
Know any auto recyclers near Port Huron? I'm going to make a day or two of it. Visit my cousin and raid a parts yard. Over here they want to send their kids to college off each vehicle. I've even run into them wanting more for a used part than it was to buy it new from the stealership!
Going to price a new fan today. I can hardly wait.......this is gonna hurt isn't it?

who gives a crap about what is and isn't measured in metric guys. look at all the of topic crap in this thread. help the guy out with his fan so his jeep doesn't overheat and blow the headgasket.
since it is not working and you hard wired it and nothing, then yes, the fan is bad. since the fan is bad, i would say probably once you get another in then it will work properly. if it doesn't, then i would start tracing the wired but there should be a relay somewhere close to the fan.

Get the feeling some people won't be satisfied until we have our own Berlin Wall.

Went to the stealership and got quoted $280 for a replacement electric fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
Ouch!
I found a Lincoln mark VIII fan at a local wreckers for $40. I was thinking of using this to get rid of my clutch fan. But now that I have to replace my electric I started looking at all the Taurus at the wreckers. All the ones I can find have 2 fans bolted to a steel frame. The write ups I've found all show then with their own shroud like the Lincoln. Am I missing something?
