Very nice... that is exactly what I was planning on doing to the connector. Glad to see my idea should work.
Now I just need to decide what to do with harness upgrade. I've read that lot of people use the one from Putco, but I've also read a lot of mixed reviews on it because of the relays and some even said the H4 connector for the headlight melted. I found a write-up about how to assemble your own... that would allow me to control the quality on the components and use Bosch style relays... so I'm leaning towards building my own.

You're right. The steering column, heater controls, wiper controls and headlamp switch in the '87 Cherokee are the same as what is in a GM vehicle of a similar era but were most likely made by a GM supplier. Good point.

Since a lot of threads never seem to include a final solution before they fade away, I thought I would just post the video of how I got the connector to work with the switch on the Renix. Maybe it will help someone out in the future.
