a compression test will tell you a lot...a leakdown test will refine where the leak is coming from...with that much oil "use" assuming it isnt leaking out, low compression would be indicative of a heavily worn engine
It is leaking. Airbox and probably more. 600-800 miles per month

I would do a compression test, and if you find general low compression, unless something alarming stands out, you could just replace your spark plugs often, old saying, spark plugs are cheap, engine rebuild isnt.
Gives you time to find a good running engine from another XJ
