It has a sensor. Which I replaced. I don't know if the new reset button works, its already at zero, but my guess is yes. I checked / changed every fuse in the car, i checked the relays. Checked grounds. I followed the cables coming out the dash to the computer, they all look fine, no rips or tears in the protective sleeves. I don't know what else to check.

You can test the wire between the sensor and the speedometer for continuity if your creative and I dont have the wiring diagrams for the 91 but in 95 there is another connector by the ash tray somewhere on a 95. Do you have antilock brakes the sensor by the wheel could be a wheel speed sensor

I was just checking and there are alot of connectors everywhere depending on the options you have just start taking connectors apart and checking them for moisture and corrosion and get a tube of dielectric grease to put them back together. I would hate to see you pay a mechanic for a simple wiring issue. look at the connectors close for corrosion and any pins not pushed all the way in especially in the engine compartment where water is a issue.

I just noticed something. Is there an identifier on a transmission, like a serial number. I don't think this is the stock transmission which is news to me because Ive had it since 75k on the jeep. It doesn't match up to my haynes or repair manual. So if there is a way can someone tell me where its at.

thanks

I believe 92 and 95 have close to the same wiring the speed sensor is pin 47 on the computer pin 13 on the guage cluster and pin 1 on the speed sensor, grounds on the cluster are 14 and 20, and 2 on the speed sensor. Disconnect the ground on the battery when testing for shorts and you should get 8 volts at the speed sensor with the ignition on pin 3. Your cluster might be different tho so match the wire colors.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead because my speedo just started cutting out on my 92. Did you ever figure it out?

just figured it out on my 92. after i got my jeep covered with mud inside and out a few weeks ago i pressure washed it including the engine bay.

the problem was the connector under the hood off of the main wire harness pass side by the washer fluid reservoir. it runs from there under the jeep past the starter along the transmission to the speedo gear sensor. it got water in it. got some dielectric grease and problem solved!!!!!

I finally got my gauges and lights to work by grounding the dash to the cigarette ground. Replaced the cluster, speed sensor and still not luck with my odometer and speedometer.
Any suggestions? Read through lots of posts over the last few weeks.

I have a 95 the speedo and odometer work intermittently. I changed the speed sensor and it worked for a short distance And it quit working again.

do you have a picture of the plug that was a issue on your 92.
