Default Spraying sideways

I'd like to spray out my transfer case well and there's only about a 1/2 dia hole to do it through. Does anyone know how to bend a straw or possibly any kind of mechanism that will let you spray out the inside of a compartment using only a relatively small hole for access. It would probably look something like a bendable straw possibly.

Thanks

I think you better not do this.

If you want to flush it, just change the fluid several times over 4,000 miles or so.

How bad was the fluid in it?

There's no practical way to "flush" a TC.

However, if you do want to suck the fluid out with a straw, use a Flav-R Straw (I recommend the Coffee flavor; it tastes better). See...they're bendable.

Those things will give you cancer. They have saccharine in them.

I've started to ignore the "according to the state of California, this product may cause cancer" labels.
It seems like there on everything these days lol

Cool at least that will get me out of a little more work. Haven't gotten the fluid out yet although it's been in there at least 60,000 so I guess we'll see. First time doing this so just thought it'd be a good idea to get her extra clean.

Use a clean drain pan, and look for metal drifting around in the fluid. White-like metal would be Aluminum from the chain eating away at the case. Gold/bronze looking metal will be from the differential (if you have a NP/NV 242 TC). In either case, metal in the drainage is not a good sign.

When you do get a chance to drain/refill your fluid I suggest you replace the internal wrenching plugs with hex head plugs from NAPA (see pic). The internal wrenching plugs are 10 MM hex. You'll need a 10 MM hex bit socket to get the plugs out.

Remove the upper (refill plug) first, then the drain plug. If you remove the drain plug first and can't get the refill plug out, you're in a world of hurt.

Tools. You can get the pump at O'reilly or Advance auto parts. TC takes about 3 Pints of ATF.

My transfer cases take about 1.2 quarts to fill till it runs out of top hole.

It has been proven that swallowing small amounts of saliva through the course of a day throughout your life time will kill you.

You're right, I should have said '3 Pints' instead of 3 Quarts. I've edited my original post.

As a note; my '99 242 placard says 2.98 [pints] and my '98 242 placard says 3.00 [pints].

Saccarin's fine in primates, rats have a unique problem that make them not do well with it. Saccarin was apparently even delisted from California's warning labels (but the air is still labelled, I'm told)

Nice writeup Ken. I'm going to pop out and buy those plugs. Sick of monster internal hex crap.
